El Torrellenc
You would never find this place unless told about it.
only 8mins from the house, Drive down to the bottom
of the mountain from the house and onto the main road
back to Vilafranca, just as you come to the town of
Torrelles the first slip road right is called C/Major
and a few houses down on the left you come to El Torrellenc
Restaturant. It look like the back of someones house,
because in fact it is! You enter a patio, and the family
owners have converted downstairs into a public restaturant.
Very basic and cafe type in look. But dont be put off
because the place is very clean and they serve a menu
of the day which includes salad, first course, main
course, and dessert, wine, water and coffee for a Bargain
9€ a head. The food is delicous and fresh. The
lady serving is Monste and she is very freindly. The
only problem is this is VERY catalan, so no one speaks
English so understaning what Montse is saying is a challenge
if you do not speak Spanish. That said through hand
signals you can muddle through and eat well.

Papa (Pontons)
Turn right out of the house, take the 2nd left and turn
right and follow the signs to Pontons. You will drive
through vineyards with unspoilt mountain range views.
Stunning. The journey alone is worth the trip. You will
come to a scruffy mountain village of Pontons. Turn
right onto the main road and up on the right is perched
the Restaurant El Papa (the Father). The restaurant
is a very old typical farmouse style with beamed ceilings.
Carmen is the owner who speaks English. The food here
is superb. These guys really know how to cook. They
specialise in Mountain Catalan cuisine with in season
produce. For example in Winter they serve 'Callcots'
giant Spring onions cooked over an open fire served
with homemade Romesco Sauce (Roasted Red Peppers, Almonds
Garlic, Olive Oil pulped into a puree) Simple peasant
food but served with chilled local Rose wine, it will
blow you away in its pleasure! A must visit in our view.
Tip: stick to the menu del dia, much cheaper than eating
off the main menu.

If your looking for REAL Catalan Culture and a old nostaligic
farmhouse then you have found it here in Maisa Arran.
Next door to Sant Jordi Cal la Katty Restaurant on the
left side of the main road past Sant Marti Sarrocca
towards Vilafranca. You will see an old farmhouse. Inside
is naturally cool and a spotless farmhouse with wooden
beamed celings. The food is delightful and EXCELLENT
value for the quality.

At first glance this unasumming place on the side of
the main road past Sant Marti Sarrocca towards Vilafranca
looks like a service cafe, but once inside and you get
to meet the very friendly Torrents family. What these
people dont know about cooking is not worth knowing.
They are experts. They do a lovely simple menu of the
day for around €11 a head. The food is ALWAYS fresh
that day and delicous. Please mention you are guests
of Casa del Vino from Torrelles and you will be well
looked after.
